And Paul, calling to himself one of the centurions, said, "Bring this young man to the chief captain; for he has something to tell him," So he, taking him with him, conducted him to the chief captain, and said, "Paul, the prisoner, calling me to him, asked me to bring this young man to you, as he has something to say to you." And the chief captain, taking hold of his hand, and going aside privately, was asking him, "What is it that you have to tell me?" And he said, "The Jews agreed to ask you, that tomorrow you would bring Paul down into the Sanhedrin, as if they would inquire somewhat more exactly concerning him. Be not, therefore, persuaded by them; for more than forty men of them are lying in wait for him; who, indeed, bound themselves under a curse, neither to eat nor drink, till they should kill him; and now they are ready, expecting the promise from you." The chief captain, therefore, dismissed the young man, charging him, "Tell no one that you have shown these things to me," And, calling to him two of the centurions, he said, "Make ready two hundred soldiers, that they may go as far as Caesarea; and seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen, at the third hour of the night; to provide beasts also, that, putting Paul thereon, they may bring him safely through to Felix the governor;"
