Then saith Jesus to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, "The stone which the builders refused, is made the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?"

And have ye not read this scripture, "The stone, which the builders refused, is become the head of the corner:

And He looked upon them and said, What then is this, which is written, The stone which the builders refused, is become the head of the corner?

This is the stone that was set at nought by you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

Whence also it is said in scripture, Behold I lay in Sion a chief corner-stone, choice and precious: and he that confideth on it shall not be ashamed. To you therefore who believe it is precious: but to them that are disobedient, the stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner,

And he that stumbleth at this stone shall be bruised, but on whomsoever it falls, it will crush him to pieces.

Whosoever falleth on that stone shall be bruised; but on whomsoever it falleth, it will crush him to pieces.

because they sought it not by faith, but by the works of the law, for they stumbled at that stumbling-stone; as it is written, "Behold I lay in Sion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence:" and again, "Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed."

to whom coming as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen of God, and precious, ye also are built up as living stones, a spiritual house, an holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
