Even so, ye my brethren; ye also are made dead as concerning the law by the body of Christ, that ye should be coupled to another - I mean to him that is risen again from death - that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the lusts of sin which were stirred up by the law, reigned in our members, to bring forth fruit unto death.
Now, verily, is the righteousness that cometh of God declared without the fulfilling of the law: having witness yet of the law, and of the prophets.
If it be of grace, then is it not of works. For then were grace no more grace. If it be by the deserving of works, then is it no more grace. For then were deserving no longer deserving.
Ye are gone quite from Christ as many as are justified by the law, and are fallen from grace.
For if the inheritance come of the law, it cometh not of promise: but God gave it unto Abraham by promise.
For the law made no thing perfect: but was an introduction of a better hope, by which hope, we draw nigh unto God.
And he fainted not in the faith, nor yet considered his own body, which was now dead, even when he was almost a hundred years old: neither yet that Sara was past childbearing.
To him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, is his faith counted for righteousness.
Before that faith came, we were kept and shut up under the law, unto the faith which should afterward be declared. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster unto the time of Christ, that we might be made righteous by faith.
But the law, in the meantime, entered in that sin should increase. Neverthelater, where abundance of sin was, there was more plenteousness of grace.
I despise not the grace of God: For if righteousness come of the law, then is Christ died in vain.
