"Have I put my trust in gold? Or, have I said to the finest gold of all, 'Thou art my confidence?'
They shall be also at their wits end, and ashamed one of another: the Egyptians of the Ethiopians, and the Ethiopians of the Egyptians, considering what glory they were in afore. This shall Ashkelon see, and be afraid. Gaza shall be very sorry, so shall Ekron also, because her hope is come of confusion. For the king of Gaza shall perish; and at Ashkelon shall no man dwell.
Even so goeth it with all them that forget God: and even thus also shall the hypocrite's hope come to naught.
As for the eyes of the ungodly, they shall be consumed, and not escape: their hope shall be misery and sorrow of mind."
The patient abiding of the righteous shall be turned to gladness; but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
What hope hath the hypocrite, though he have great good, and though God give him riches after his heart's desire?
remember, I say, that ye were at that time without Christ, and were reputed aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and were strangers from the testaments of promise, and had no hope, and were without God in this world.
