And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it, and shall desire to die, and death shall fly from them.
"Alas, why died I not in the birth? Why did not I perish, as soon as I came out of my mother's womb?
Wherefore hast thou brought me out of my mother's womb? O that I had perished, and that no eye had seen me.
Cursed be the day wherein I was born! Unhappy be the day, wherein my mother brought me forth! Cursed be the man, that brought my father the tidings, to make him glad, saying, "Thou hast gotten a son." because he slew me not, as soon as I came out of my mother's womb, and because my mother was not my grave herself, that the birth might not have come out, but remained still in her. Wherefore came I forth of my mother's womb? To have experience of labour and sorrow? And to lead my life with shame?
And he said unto me, 'Come on me and slay me: For anguish is come upon me and my life is yet all in me.'
"O that I might have my desire! O that God would grant me the thing, that I long for!
That he would begin and smite me: that he would let his hand go, and hew me down.
O that thou wouldest keep me, and hide me in the hell, until thy wrath were stilled: and to appoint me a time, wherein thou mightest remember me.
And he went a day's journey into the wilderness, and when he was come sat down under a Juniper tree, and desired for his soul, that he might die, and said, "It is now enough, O LORD, take my soul; for I am not better than my fathers."
And as soon as the sun was up, God prepared a fervent east wind: so that the sun beat over the head of Jonah, that he fainted again and wished unto his soul that he might die, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us'; and to the hills, 'Cover us.'

Though they were buried in the hell, my hand shall fetch them from thence. Though they climb up to heaven, yet shall I cast them down.
Mine enemies speak evil upon me, "When shall he die, and his name perish?"
For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take their counsel together,
in that thou lovest thine enemies and hatest thy friends. Thou hast declared this day that thou carest neither for thy lords nor servants. For this day I do perceive, if Absalom had lived, and all we died this day, that then it had pleased thee well.
