And they said to him: In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet: And thou, Bethlehem, city of Judah, art by no means the least among the chiefs of Judah; for out of thee shall come a leader, that shall be a shepherd to my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had secretly called the Magi, inquired of them strictly at what time the star, then visible, first made its appearance: and sending them to Bethlehem, he said: Go, make strict inquiry for the young child: and when you have found him, bring me word, that I also may go and do him homage. When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over the place where the young child was. And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with very great joy. And having come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down, they did him homage. And when they had opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country by another way.

Luke 1:27-38

And it came to pass in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the inhabitants of the land should be enrolled. This enrollment first took place when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each one to his own city.read more.

And this shall be to you the sign: you will find the babe wrapped in swathing-clothes, and lying in a stable. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will among men. And it came to pass, that, after the angels had gone away into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us now go to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the stable. And after they had seen it, they made known every where the words that had been spoken to them of this child. And all that heard, wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things in her mind, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been told to them. And when eight days were completed for circumcising him, his name was called Jesus, as it had been called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
