but was rebuked for his iniquity; the dumb ass, speaking with mans voice, restrained the madness of the prophet.
Again there arose a division among the Jews on account of these words. Many of them said, He hath a demon, and is mad; why do ye hear him? Others said, These are not the words of one that hath a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?
But the Pharisees, hearing it, said, This man doth not cast out the demons, except through Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.
And again a multitude cometh together, so that they could not so much as eat bread. And his relations hearing of it went out to lay hold of him; for they said, He is beside himself. And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebul; and, He casteth out the demons through the prince of the demons.
But some of them said, He casteth out the demons through Beelzebul, the prince of the demons;
And as he was thus speaking in his defence, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning is making thee mad. But he saith, I am not mad, most noble Festus, but utter words of truth and soberness.
For whether we were beside ourselves, it was for God; or whether we are in our sound mind, it is for you.
