For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
They said to Pharaoh, "We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. And now, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen."
The seven years of plenty that occurred in the land of Egypt came to an end,
and the people of Israel said to them, "Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
Happier were the victims of the sword than the victims of hunger, who wasted away, pierced by lack of the fruits of the field.

"I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat.
May it fall upon the head of Joab and upon all his father's house, and may the house of Joab never be without one who has a discharge or who is leprous or who holds a spindle or who falls by the sword or who lacks bread!"
The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
