And even more, inasmuch as it is not without an oath (for the others indeed without an oath were made priests, but this one with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord swore and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec); by so much better testament is Jesus made surety. And the others, truly, were many priests because they were not able to continue by reason of death: but this man, because he continues forever, has the intransmissible priesthood. Therefore he is able also to save to the uttermost those that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them. For it was expedient that we have such a high priest, who is holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens, who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins and then for the people's; for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law makes men high priests who have weakness; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, has made perfect a Son forever.

Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me; doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun. But your little ones, whom ye said should be a prey, I will bring them in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness. And your children shall be shepherded in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness. After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, each day for a year, ye shall bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know my reason for annulling my promise.
