even in Him, in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated to it according to the purpose of Him who effecteth all things after the counsel of His own will:

God having provided something better concerning us, that without us they might not be made perfect.

and they assembled with the elders, and taking counsel together gave the soldiers a large sum of money, saying, Do you say, that his disciples came by night, and stole Him away, while we were asleep.

And the counsel of the soldiers was to kill the prisoners, least any of them should swim out and escape. But the centurion, desirous to save Paul, hindered them from their purpose, and ordered those that could swim to throw themselves out first, and get off to land:

Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go to such a city, and spend a year there, and trade and get gain; (though ye know not what will be on the morrow; for what is your life? a vapor, which appeareth for a little while, and then vanisheth away:) whereas ye ought to say, If the Lord will, and we should live, and do this or that:
