And Pilate gave judgment that their request should be executed; and he released him who, because of insurrection and murder, had been cast into prison, for whom they were asking; but he delivered up Jesus to their will.
But he said, "Why, what evil did He perform?" And they were crying out the more, saying, "Let Him be crucified!" And Pilate, seeing that it availed nothing, but rather a tumult was being made, taking water, washed his hands before the multitude, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this Man. Ye shall see to it." And all the people, answering, said, "His blood be upon us, and upon our children." read more.
Then he released to them Barabbas; but, having scourged Jesus, he delivered Him up to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor, taking Jesus into the Praetorium, gathered to Him the whole band.
Pilate says to Him, "What is truth?" And, having said this, he went out again to the Jews, and says to them, "I find no crime in Him. But ye have a custom, that I should release to you one at the passover. Do ye wish, therefore, that I release to you the King of the Jews?"
And Pilate went out again, and says to them, "Behold, I bring Him out to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in Him." Jesus, therefore, came forth without, wearing the thorn-crown, and the purple robe. And he says to them, "Behold, the Man!" When, therefore, the high priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out, "Crucify! crucify!" Pilate says to them, "Take ye Him, and crucify Him; for I find not a crime in Him." read more.
The Jews, therefore, answered him, "We have a law, and according to the law He ought to die, because He made Himself God's Son." When, therefore, Pilate heard this saying, he was the more afraid; and he entered again into the Praetorium, and says to Jesus, "Whence art Thou?" But Jesus gave him no answer. Pilate, therefore, says to Him, "Dost Thou not speak to me? Knowest Thou not that I have authority to release Thee, and have authority to crucify Thee?" Jesus answered him, "You would have no authority against Me, unless it were given to you from above; on this account, he who delivered Me up to you has greater sin." In consequence of this, Pilate was seeking to release Him; but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you release this Man, you are not Caesar's friend; every one who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar." Pilate, therefore, having heard these words, led Jesus without, and sat down on the judgment-seat at a place called the "Pavement," but, in Hebrew, "Gabbatha."

And she said, "The head of John the Immerser." And, coming in straight-way, in haste, to the king, she asked, saying, "I wish that you would, forthwith, give me on a dish, the head of John the Immerser." And, though becoming very sorrowful, the king, because of his oaths, and those reclining with him, would not thwart her. And the king, straightway sending off one of his guard, gave orders to bring his head; and, departing, he beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a dish, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.
