Then he told them a parable, to show that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said: "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'read more.
For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" And the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you that he will bring about justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything'?read more.
I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

All these with one mind devoted themselves to prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be faithful in prayer.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain and the earth produced its fruit.

And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Again, a second time, he went away and prayed, "O my Father, if this cup cannot pass away unless I drink it, your will be done." And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

And when he came again, he found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer him.
