dear brethren, avenge not yourselves, but leave that to the resentment of another: for it is written, "vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."

for we know who it is that has said, "vengeance belongeth unto me, I will repay." and again, "the Lord shall revenge his people."

but Jesus said to him, put up your sword in its place: for all that take to the sword, shall perish by the sword.

be not deceived, God will not be mocked: for what a man soweth, that shall he also reap: he that soweth to his vices, shall reap the deadly fruit of his vices; but he that sows to the spirit, shall of the spirit reap everlasting life.

for his administration is appointed by God for your good. but if you do wrong, you have reason to be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: he being the minister of God, to execute punishment upon malefactors.

as supreme; or to governors, as being deputed by him to punish those who do ill,

Ye have heard that it hath been said, "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." but I say unto you, don't return evil for evil; on the contrary, if any one strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other likewise.

since it is agreeable to his justice to afflict those in their turn, who afflict you: and that you, who are distress'd, should obtain your repose, together with us, when the Lord Jesus, with his angels, the ministers of his power, shall descend from heaven, in flaming fire, to take vengeance on those, who know not God, and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:read more.
the Lord shall punish them with everlasting destruction, when he shall appear in the glory of his power, and come to be glorified by his saints, and to be the object of admiration to all who believed, that the testimony we gave you, would be justified in that day.

the sea gave up the dead which were in it; death and the grave delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every one according to their works.

let not this surprize you: for the time is coming, when all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and they that have done good, shall rise to the possession of life; and they that have done evil, shall rise to their condemnation.

now these things were examples to deter us from longing after things that are pernicious, as they did. be not idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." neither let us commit fornication, as some of them did, of whom three and twenty thousand fell in one day.read more.

for he that eats and drinks in a disrespectful manner, not discriminating the Lord's body, eateth and drinketh to his own punishment. hence it is, that many are weak and sickly among you, and no small number now sleep in their graves.

and the men unnaturally leaving the sex, were inflamed with mutual passions, which they shamefully indulged, and received in their own persons, the retribution that was justly due to such enormities.

as for these impious impostors, they will go on from bad to worse, seducing others, and deluding themselves.
