It was while Apollos was in Corinth that Paul, after passing through the interior, reached Ephesus. Finding some disciples there,

The Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called the Straight Street, and ask at the house of Judas for a man named Saul, from Tarsus, for he is there praying.

As they were going along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."

Jesus replied, "A man was on his way down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers, and they stripped him and beat him and went off leaving him half dead. Now a priest happened to be going that way, and when he saw him, he went by on the other side of the road. And a Levite also came to the place, and when he saw him, he went by on the other side.read more.
But a Samaritan who was traveling that way came upon him, and when he saw him he pitied him,

As they went on along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Here is some water! What is there to prevent my being baptized?"

And they said to each other, "Did not our hearts glow when he was talking to us on the road, and was explaining the Scriptures to us?"

And they reached Capernaum. When he reached home, he asked them, "What was it that you were discussing on the way?"

Carry no purse nor wallet nor shoes, and do not stop to exchange civilities with anyone on the way.

Then you will go on to say, 'We have been entertained with you, and you have taught in our streets!'

As he approached Jericho, a blind man happened to be sitting by the roadside begging.

So go out where the roads leave the city and invite everyone you find to the banquet.' So his slaves went out on the roads, and got together all the people they could find, good or bad, and the hall was filled with guests.

So the slave went back, and reported this to his master. Then the master of the house was angry and said to his slave, 'Hurry out into the streets and squares of the city, and bring the poor, the maimed, the blind, and the lame in here!' And the slave said, 'What you ordered, sir, has been done, and there is still room.' And the master said to the slave, 'Go out on the roads, and among the hedges, and make them come so that my house may be full.

"When you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, for they like to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the squares, to let people see them. I tell you, that is the only reward they will get!
