20 Bible Verses about Self Exaltation

He who loves fighting loves transgression; he who makes his gate high seeks ruin.

Do not put yourself forth in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of the great;

for it is better that it should be said to you, Come up here, than that you should be put lower in the presence of a noble whom your eyes have seen.

It is not good to eat much honey; so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

For you have said in your heart, I will go up to the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.

I will go up above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.

For you have trusted in your wickedness; you have said, No one sees me. Your wisdom and your knowledge, it has perverted you; and you have said in your heart, I am, and there is no one else.

Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre. So says the Lord Jehovah: Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of gods;

So the Lord Jehovah says this: Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and he set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

Though you rise high like the eagle, and though you set your nest between the stars, I will bring you down from there, says Jehovah.

And whoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he who shall humble himself shall be exalted.

They said to Him, Grant to us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left hand, in Your glory.

But I have understanding as well as you; I do not fall short of you; yes, who does not know such things as these?

So the Lord Jehovah says this: Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and he set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; so I have given him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations. He shall surely deal with him; I have expelled him for his evil. And strangers have cut him off, the fearful of the nations, and have left him. On the mountains and in all the valleys his branches have fallen, and his boughs have been broken by all the rivers of the land. And all the people of the earth have gone from his shadow, and have left him.read more.
On his ruin shall all the birds of the heavens remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be on his branches, to the end that none of all the trees by the waters shall be exalted in their height, nor give their top among the thick boughs, nor should their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water. For all of them are given to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the sons of men, with those who go down into the Pit.

And He put forth a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose out the chief places, saying to them, When you are invited by anyone to a wedding, do not recline in the chief seat, lest a more honorable man than you may be invited by him. And he who invited you and him shall come and say to you, Give place to this man; and then you begin with shame to take the last place.read more.
But when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher. Then glory shall be to you before those reclining with you. For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.
