20 Bible Verses about Self Exaltation

The one who loves a quarrel loves transgression; whoever builds his gate high seeks destruction.

Do not honor yourself before the king, and do not stand in the place of great men;

for it is better for him to say to you, "Come up here," than to put you lower before a prince, whom your eyes have seen.

It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable for people to seek their own glory.

You said to yourself, "I will climb up to the sky. Above the stars of El I will set up my throne. I will rule on the mountain of assembly on the remote slopes of Zaphon.

I will climb up to the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High!"

You were complacent in your evil deeds; you thought, 'No one sees me.' Your self-professed wisdom and knowledge lead you astray, when you say, 'I am unique! No one can compare to me!'

"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, 'This is what the sovereign Lord says: "'Your heart is proud and you said, "I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas" -- yet you are a man and not a god, though you think you are godlike.

"'Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Because it was tall in stature, and its top reached into the clouds, and it was proud of its height,

Even if you were to soar high like an eagle, even if you were to make your nest among the stars, I can bring you down even from there!" says the Lord.

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

They said to him, "Permit one of us to sit at your right hand and the other at your left in your glory."

I also have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Who does not know such things as these?

"'Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Because it was tall in stature, and its top reached into the clouds, and it was proud of its height, I gave it over to the leader of the nations. He has judged it thoroughly, as its sinfulness deserves. I have thrown it out. Foreigners from the most terrifying nations have cut it down and left it to lie there on the mountains. In all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs lie broken in the ravines of the land. All the peoples of the land have departed from its shade and left it.read more.
On its ruins all the birds of the sky will live, and all the wild animals will walk on its branches. For this reason no watered trees will grow so tall; their tops will not reach into the clouds, nor will the well-watered ones grow that high. Then when Jesus noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. He said to them, "When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, because a person more distinguished than you may have been invited by your host. So the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your place.' Then, ashamed, you will begin to move to the least important place.read more.

and every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ.

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat in God's temple, displaying himself as God.

Look how you have fallen from the sky, O shining one, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the ground, O conqueror of the nations! You said to yourself, "I will climb up to the sky. They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.
