And when we had all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking to me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? It is hard for thee to kick against the goads.
Since then God gave the like gift to them as to us, on believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?

On this ground do I also myself strive to have always a conscience void of offence toward God and toward men.

I find then that there is a law to me, that when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the Law of God, as to the inward man; but I perceive another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death? Thanks be to God, [who hath delivered me] through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then, I, the same person, with the mind serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
And every one who contendeth in the games is temperate in all things; they, however, to obtain a perishable crown, but we, an imperishable. I therefore so run, not as one uncertain; I so fight, not as one striking the air; but I beat down my body, and bring it into subjection, lest perhaps, when I have been a herald to others, I should myself be rejected as unworthy.
