But who is there of you, having a servant plowing, or tending sheep, that will say to him, having come in from the field, 'Coming straightway, recline at table;' and will not rather say to him, 'Make ready wherewith I may sup; and, having girded yourself, serve me, until I eat and drink; and afterward you shall eat and drink?' Does he thank the servant, because he did the things that were commanded?read more.
So also ye, when ye do all the things that were commanded you, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what it was our duty to do.'
So that he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those having resisted shall receive to themselves condemnation; for rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And do you wish not to fear the authority? Do that which is good, and you shall have praise from the same; for he is God's minister to you for good. But, if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger for wrath to him that does evil.read more.
Wherefore, there is necessity that ye submit yourselves, not only because of the wrath, but also because of conscience. For, on this account, ye pay tribute also; for they are God's ministers, attending continually to this very thing. Render to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

But, as the assembly is subject to Christ, so also let the women be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the assembly, and delivered Himself up for it, that He might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of the water in the word, that He might present to Himself the assembly, glorious, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it may be holy and without blemish.
Remind them to submit to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work; to speak evil of no one, to be averse to strife, to be mild, showing all meekness to all men. For we also were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving manifold desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Honor all men; love the brotherhood; fear God; honor the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the perverse.
Likewise, ye younger, be subject to the elder; yea, all of you gird on the lowly mind to serve one another; because "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the lowly."
