And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity! the tongue is placed among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of life, and is set on fire by Hell.

but the tongue no man can tame; a restless evil, full of deadly poison!

So also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how small a fire kindles how great a forest!

For in many things we all stumble. If anyone stumbles not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to restrain also the whole body.

For he that speaks in a tongue speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands; but in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

If any one speaks in a tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and in turn; and let one interpret;

but, if there is no interpreter, let him keep silence in the assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God.

Therefore, the tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophecy is a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.
