Then saith Jesus to him, "Return your sword to its place; for all taking a sword will perish by a sword. Or do you think that I cannot call upon My Father, and He will place beside Me, even now, more than twelve legions of angels?
but had a rebuke for his own transgression; a dumb beast-of-burden, speaking in man's voice, forbade the prophet's madness.
For to this were ye called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow His steps; Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth; Who, when reviled, reviled not again; when suffering, was not threatening, but committed Himself to Him Who judgeth righteously;
And the high priest, standing up, said to Him, "Answerest Thou nothing? What are these testifying against Thee?" But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to Him, "I adjure Thee by the living God, that Thou tell us whether Thou art the Christ, the Son of God"
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, "Dost Thou answer nothing? What do these testify against Thee?" But He was silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, and says to Him, "Art Thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"
And, while He was being accused by the high priests and elders, He answered nothing. Then says Pilate to Him, "Hearest Thou not how many things they testify against Thee?" And He did not answer him, not even to one word; so that the governor greatly wondered.
And Pilate again asked Him, saying, "Answerest Thou nothing? Behold how many things they accuse Thee of!" But Jesus no longer made any answer; so that Pilate marvelled.
And His disciples followed Him, as He entered into a boat. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; but He was sleeping. And, coming to Him, they awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save; we are perishing!"read more.
And He saith to them, "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" Then, having arisen, He rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. And the men wondered, saying, "What manner of Man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!"
And, leaving the multitude, they take Him with them, as He was, in the boat. And other boats were with Him. And there arises a great storm of wind, and the waves were beating into the boat, so that the boat was now being filled. And He Himself was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion; and they awake Him, and say to Him, "Teacher, is it no concern to Thee that we perish?"read more.
And, having been roused up, He rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And He said to them, "Why are ye fearful? Have ye not yet faith?" And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, "Who, then, is This, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!"
Now it came to pass on one of the days, that both He and His disciples entered into a boat; and He said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake." And they set forth. But, as they were sailing, He fell asleep. And there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were being filled full of water, and were in peril. And, coming near, they awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we perish!" And, having arisen, He rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; and they ceased, and it became calm.read more.
And He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And, struck with fear, they marvelled, saying one to another, "Who, then, is This, that He commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!"
And, unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would have been saved; but, for the elect's sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
And, unless those days should be shortened, no flesh could be saved: but, for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.
And now ye know what hinders his being revealed in his own season; for the mystery of lawlessness is already working: only He Who hindereth will hinder, until He is taken out of the midst.
And he seized the dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
I pray not that Thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil one.
And bring us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.'
and forgive us our sins; for we also ourselves forgive every one indebted to us. And bring us not into temptation.'"
saying, "Hurt not the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, until we shall seal the servants of our God on their foreheads."
The Lord is not slow respecting the promise, as some account slowness; but He is long-suffering toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
If anyone thinks that he is religious, while he bridles not his own tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
For in many things we all stumble. If anyone stumbles not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to restrain also the whole body. Now, if we put the horses' bridles into their mouths, that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. Behold also the ships, large as they are, and driven along by fierce winds, are turned about by a very small rudder, wheresoever the impulse of the steersman wills.read more.
So also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how small a fire kindles how great a forest! And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity! the tongue is placed among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of life, and is set on fire by Hell. For every nature, both of wild beasts and birds, both of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed, by mankind; but the tongue no man can tame; a restless evil, full of deadly poison! Therewith we bless the Lord and Father; and therewith we curse men, who have been made after the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth come forth blessing and cursing! My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Does the fountain send forth, from the same opening, the sweet water and the bitter, My brethren, can a fig tree produce olives; or a vine, figs? Neither can salt water yield sweet.
For, "He who wishes to love life, and to see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile;
