And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing near him. And he saw [them] and ran from the doorway of the tent to meet them. And he bowed down to the ground.

Joshua 18:4

Provide three men {from each tribe}, and I will send them so that they may begin to go through the land and write [a description of] it {according to their inheritance}, and let them come to me.

But he [was] not willing to drink it, but poured it out to Yahweh. He said, "Far be it from me before Yahweh that I should do this. [Is this not] the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?" So he [was] not willing to drink it. These things the three mighty warriors did.

But David would not drink it and poured it out before Yahweh. And he said, "Far be it from me [that] I would do this before my God. Shall I drink the lifeblood of these men? For {at the risk of their lives} they brought it." And he was not willing to drink it. These things the three mighty men did.

{He was twice as renowned} among the three and was their commander. But he did not attain to the three.
