And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
The crowd joined against them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and ordered them to be beaten with rods. And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to guard them securely. Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. And others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
