And suddenly a furious storm came up, so that the boat was being covered over by the bursting billows, but He kept on sleeping. So they went to Him and woke Him up, and said, "Lord, save us; we are going down!" And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you with little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. So they woke Him up and said to Him, "Teacher, is it no concern to you that we are going down?" Then He aroused Himself and reproved the wind, and said to the sea, "Hush! Be still." And the wind lulled, and there was a great calm. Then He asked them, "Why are you afraid? Have you no faith yet?"
Now as they were sailing along, He fell off to sleep. But a furious squall of wind rushed down upon the lake, and they were filling up and were in impending peril. So they came to Him and woke Him up, and said, "Master, Master, we are perishing? Then He aroused Himself and reproved the wind and the surge of the water, and they stopped at once and instantly there came a calm. Then He said to them, "Where is your faith?" But they were frightened and astounded, and continued to say to one another, "Who can He be? For He gives orders even to the winds and the water, and they obey Him."
And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" And they screamed with fright.
But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they thought that it was a ghost and screamed aloud,
And He said, "Come." And Peter got down out of the boat and walked on the water, and he went toward Jesus. But when he felt the wind, he was frightened, and as he began to go down, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus at once put out His hand and caught hold of him, and said to him, "O you of little faith! Why did you waver so?"
Jesus knew it and said, "Why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? Have you so little faith? Do you not understand yet? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many basketfuls you took up? Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many hamper-basketfuls you took up?
And as He noticed it He said to them, "Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet know nor understand? Are your minds so dull? Since you have eyes can you not see with them? Since you have ears can you not hear with them? Do you not remember how many basketfuls of pieces you picked up when I broke the five loaves in pieces for the five thousand?" They said to Him, "Twelve."read more.
"And how many hamper-basketfuls of pieces when I broke the seven loaves in pieces for the four thousand?" They said to Him, "Seven." He said to them, "How is it that you do not understand?"
But He answered them, "Give them something to eat yourselves." Then they said to Him, "Shall we go and buy forty dollars' worth of bread and give it to them to eat?"
Philip answered Him, "Forty dollars' worth of bread is not enough to give them all even a scanty meal apiece."
for they did not understand the lesson of the loaves; their minds were dull.
The disciples said to Him, "Where in this destitute place can we get bread enough to satisfy such a crowd?"
But His disciples answered Him, "Where can anyone get bread enough here in this destitute place, to give these people plenty?"
Jesus said, "Slip the stone aside." The dead man's sister, Martha, said to Him, "Lord, by this time he is offensive, for he has been dead four days."
They said to her, "You are crazy!" But she persistently insisted that it was so. Then they said, "It is his guardian angel!" But Peter, meanwhile, kept on knocking. So they opened the door, and when they saw him, they were astounded. With his hand he motioned to them to be quiet, and then he told them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He added, "Tell all these things to James and the brothers." Then he left them and went somewhere else.
Later on He appeared to the Eleven themselves while they were at table, and reproved them for their lack of faith and their stubbornness, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had been raised from the dead.
Then He said to them, "O men sluggish in mind and slow in heart to believe all that the prophets have said!
Now after He had risen, early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary of Magdala, out of whom He had driven seven demons. She went out and told it to His disciples, while they were mourning and weeping. But although they had heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.read more.
After this He showed Himself in a different form to two of them as they were walking along, on their way into the country. Then they went back and told the rest, but they would not believe them either.
But the report seemed to them to be nonsense, and so they continued to disbelieve the women.
So the rest of the disciples kept saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail prints in His hands, and put my finger into them, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe it!"
And Jesus answered, "O you unbelieving and perverted people of the times! How long can I put up with you? Bring him here to me!"
He answered them, "Oh, you unbelieving people of the times! How long must I be with you! How long must I put up with you! Bring him to me."
Then Jesus answered, "O you unbelieving, stubborn people of the times! How long must I be with you and put up with you? Bring him here to me."
After that the disciples came to Jesus and privately asked, "Why is it we could not drive it out?" He answered them, "Because you have so little faith! For I solemnly say to you, if you have the faith that is living like a grain of mustard, you can say to this mountain, 'Move over from here to yonder,' and it will move over, and nothing will be impossible for you to do."
You must believe me, that I am in union with the Father and that the Father is in union with me, or else you must do so because of the very things that I am doing.
And Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind are seeing and the crippled are walking, the lepers are being healed and the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised and the poor are having the good news preached to them. And happy is the man who finds no cause for stumbling over me."
If I am not doing the things that my Father is doing, do not believe me. But if I am doing so, even if you will not believe me, believe the deeds, that you may come to know and continue to know that the Father is in union with me and I am in union with the Father."
Now there are many other wonder-works which Jesus performed in the disciples' presence which are not recorded in this book. But these have been recorded, in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life, as bearers of His name.
and yet he never staggered in doubt at the promise of God but grew powerful in faith, because he gave the glory to God
