Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

For some, when they had heard, did provoke: yet, not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, as she had received the spies with peace.

Yes, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said to you.

And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

And he did not many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick persons, and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went around the villages teaching.

So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them: but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear:

For it is impossible for those who have been once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit. The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him asunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

That they all may be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and lewd men, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
