'Anointed' in the Bible
The kings of the earth take their stand;And the rulers take counsel togetherAgainst the Lord and His Anointed (the Davidic King, the Messiah, the Christ), saying,
“Yet as for Me, I have anointed and firmly installed My KingUpon Zion, My holy mountain.”
He gives great triumphs to His king,And shows steadfast love and mercy to His anointed,To David and his descendants forever.
Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;He will answer him from His holy heavenWith the saving strength of His right hand.
The Lord is their [unyielding] strength,And He is the fortress of salvation to His anointed.
You have loved righteousness (virtue, morality, justice) and hated wickedness;Therefore God, your God, has anointed YouAbove Your companions with the oil of jubilation.
See our shield, O God,And look at the face of Your anointed [the king as Your representative].
“I have found David My servant;With My holy oil I have anointed him,
But [in apparent contradiction of all this] You [the faithful Lord] have cast off and rejected;You have been full of wrath against Your anointed.
With which Your enemies have taunted, O Lord,With which they have mocked the footsteps of Your anointed.
But my horn [my emblem of strength and power] You have exalted like that of a wild ox;I am anointed with fresh oil [for Your service].
“Do not touch My anointed ones,And do My prophets no harm.”
For the sake of Your servant David,Do not turn away the face of Your anointed.
“There I will make the horn (strength) of David grow;I have prepared a lamp for My anointed [fulfilling the promises].
