'Boiling' in the Bible
Jacob had cooked [reddish-brown lentil] stew [one day], when Esau came from the field and was famished;
“But unstable and reckless and boiling over like water [in sinful lust], you shall not excel or have the preeminence [of the firstborn],Because you went up to your father’s bed [with Bilhah];You defiled it—he went up to my couch.
and the custom of the priests with [the sacrifices of] the people. When any man was offering a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged [meat] fork in his hand;
The word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, tilting away from the north [its mouth about to pour out on the south, on Judea].”
who say, ‘Is not the time near to build houses? This city is [secure just like] the pot and we are the meat [in it].’
Therefore, thus says the Lord God, “Your dead whom you have laid in the midst of your city are the meat and this city is the pot; but I shall force you out of [the security of] it.
This city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be meat [safe] in it, but I will judge you at the border of Israel.
There was a row of masonry all around inside them, around [each of] the four courtyards, and it was made with cooking hearths under the rows all around.
Then he said to me, “These are the kitchens of the cooks, where the ministers (Levites) of the temple shall boil (cook) the sacrifices of the people.”
