'Called' in the Bible
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon, son of John: you shall be called Cephas" --that is to say, Peter (or 'Rock')
"How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. "Before Philip called you," said Jesus, "when you were under the fig-tree I saw you."
So they carried some to him. And no sooner had the President tasted the water now turned into wine, than--not knowing where it came from, though the attendants who had drawn the water knew--he called to the bridegroom
"I know," replied the woman, "that Messiah is coming--'the Christ,' as He is called. When He has come, He will tell us everything."
The woman however, leaving her pitcher, went away to the town, and called the people.
Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, called in Hebrew 'Bethesda.' It has five arcades.
They were terrified; but He called to them. "It is I," He said, "do not be afraid."
The Jews, however, did not believe the statement concerning him--that he had been blind and had obtained his sight--until they called his parents and asked them,
A second time therefore they called the man who had been blind, and said, "Give God the praise: we know that that man is a sinner."
If those to whom God's word was addressed are called gods (and the Scripture cannot be annulled)
After saying this, she went and called her sister Mary privately, telling her, "The Rabbi is here and is asking for you."
After speaking thus, He called out in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out."
Therefore Jesus no longer went about openly among the Jews, but He left that neighbourhood and went into the district near the Desert, to a town called Ephraim, and remained there with the disciples.
The large number of people, however, who had been present when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and brought him back to life, related what they had witnessed.
No longer do I call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all that I have heard from the Father I have made known to you.
Re-entering the Praetorium, therefore, Pilate called Jesus and asked Him, "Are *you* the King of the Jews?"
On hearing this, Pilate brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judge's seat in a place called the Pavement--or in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
and He went out carrying His own cross, to the place called Skull-place--or, in Hebrew, Golgotha--
Simon Peter was with Thomas, called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zabdi, and two others of the Master's disciples.
