For thus says the Lord of hosts,“Cut down her treesAnd cast up a siege against Jerusalem.This is the city to be punished,In whose midst there is only oppression.
For the customs of the peoples are delusion;Because it is wood cut from the forest,The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.
But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter;And I did not know that they had devised plots against me, saying,“Let us destroy the tree with its fruit,And let us cut him off from the land of the living,That his name be remembered no more.”
“For I will set apart destroyers against you,Each with his weapons;And they will cut down your choicest cedarsAnd throw them on the fire.
Who says, ‘I will build myself a roomy houseWith spacious upper rooms,And cut out its windows,Paneling it with cedar and painting it bright red.’
and Dedan, Tema, Buz and all who cut the corners of their hair;

and say, ‘You, O Lord, have promised concerning this place to cut it off, so that there will be nothing dwelling in it, whether man or beast, but it will be a perpetual desolation.’
