'Devoting' in the Bible

and we devote them, as we have done to Sihon king of Heshbon, devoting every city, men, the women, and the infants;

Thou dost surely smite the inhabitants of that city by the mouth of the sword; devoting it, and all that is in it, even its cattle, by the mouth of the sword;

But the king will rejoice in God;Everyone who swears by Him [honoring the true God, acknowledging His authority and majesty] will glory,For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.

With one mind, all of them kept devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women (including Mary the mother of Jesus) and his brothers.

They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

This is also why you pay taxes. For rulers are God's servants faithfully devoting themselves to their work.
