'Ground' in the Bible
Men will go into caves of the rocksAnd into holes of the groundBefore the terror of the LordAnd the splendor of His majesty,When He arises to make the earth tremble.
And her gates will lament and mourn,And deserted she will sit on the ground.
“So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard:I will remove its hedge and it will be consumed;I will break down its wall and it will become trampled ground.
“Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs.”And one said, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon;And all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground.”
The unassailable fortifications of your walls He will bring down,Lay low and cast to the ground, even to the dust.
“For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city;He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.
Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed?Does he continually turn and harrow the ground?
Then you will be brought low;From the earth you will speak,And from the dust where you are prostrateYour words will come.Your voice will also be like that of a spirit from the ground,And your speech will whisper from the dust.
Then He will give you rain for the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plenteous; on that day your livestock will graze in a roomy pasture.
Also the oxen and the donkeys which work the ground will eat salted fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork.
The scorched land will become a poolAnd the thirsty ground springs of water;In the haunt of jackals, its resting place,Grass becomes reeds and rushes.
“Let every valley be lifted up,And every mountain and hill be made low;And let the rough ground become a plain,And the rugged terrain a broad valley;
‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty landAnd streams on the dry ground;I will pour out My Spirit on your offspringAnd My blessing on your descendants;
“Come down and sit in the dust,O virgin daughter of Babylon;Sit on the ground without a throne,O daughter of the Chaldeans!For you shall no longer be called tender and delicate.
“I will put it into the hand of your tormentors,Who have said to you, ‘Lie down that we may walk over you.’You have even made your back like the groundAnd like the street for those who walk over it.”
For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,And like a root out of parched ground;He has no stately form or majestyThat we should look upon Him,Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
