'Hope' in the Bible
For this [reason] my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced greatly, furthermore also my flesh will live in hope,
But [when] her owners saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas [and] dragged [them] into the marketplace before the rulers.
Now [when] Paul realized that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he shouted out in the Sanhedrin, "Men [and] brothers! I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees! I am being judged concerning the hope and the resurrection of the dead!"
having a hope in God which these [men] also themselves await: [that] there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.
And now I stand here on trial on the basis of hope in the promise made by God to our fathers,
to which our twelve tribes hope to attain as [they] earnestly serve [him] night and day. Concerning this hope I am being accused by the Jews, O king!
But [when] neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and [with] not a little bad weather confronting [us], finally all hope was abandoned [that] we would be saved.
Therefore for this reason I have requested to see you and to speak with [you], for because of the hope of Israel I am wearing this chain!"
