'Waves' in the Bible
“For the waves of death encompassed me;The torrents of destruction overwhelmed me;
Who alone stretches out the heavensAnd tramples down the waves of the sea;
And I said, ‘Thus far you shall come, but no farther;And here shall your proud waves stop’?
Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls;All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.
Who stills the roaring of the seas,The roaring of their waves,And the tumult of the peoples.
Your wrath has rested upon me,And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah.
You rule the swelling of the sea;When its waves rise, You still them.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord,The floods have lifted up their voice,The floods lift up their pounding waves.
For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind,Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
He caused the storm to be still,So that the waves of the sea were hushed.
“If only you had paid attention to My commandments!Then your well-being would have been like a river,And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
For I am the Lord your God, who stirs up the sea and its waves roar (the Lord of hosts is His name).
‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the Lord.‘Do you not tremble in My presence?For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea,An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it.Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail;Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.
Thus says the Lord,Who gives the sun for light by dayAnd the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night,Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar;The Lord of hosts is His name:
“The sea has come up over Babylon;She has been engulfed with its tumultuous waves.
For the Lord is going to destroy Babylon,And He will make her loud noise vanish from her.And their waves will roar like many waters;The tumult of their voices sounds forth.
therefore thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves.
“And they will pass through the sea of distressAnd He will strike the waves in the sea,So that all the depths of the Nile will dry up;And the pride of Assyria will be brought downAnd the scepter of Egypt will depart.
And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep.
But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary.
And there *arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up.
They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm.
“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,
But striking a reef where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern began to be broken up by the force of the waves.
As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever.
