Being about to bear away the end of your faith - a salvation of souls:

About which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently. Men who prophesied about the grace for you,

They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.

Therefore, as a means of spiritual preparation, tighten up the belt about your minds, keep perfectly calm, keep your hope on the spiritual blessing to be conferred upon you at the unveiling of Jesus Christ.

For ye were as sheep going astray; but now have turned about to the Shepherd and inspector of your souls.

In the same way [that Jesus was submissive], you wives should submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even though they may not obey the [Gospel] message [they have heard] they may, without your talking [to them about it],

Who is the one about to harm you, if you may be zealots of the good?

but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. And always be ready for a defense to every man who asks you a word about the hope in you, with mildness and fear.

Being conscious that you have done no wrong; so that those who say evil things about your good way of life as Christians may be put to shame.

in that he spends the rest of his time on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.

Now to you who are presbyters I make this appeal; for I am myself a presbyter, and was a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory about to be revealed.

casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour,

This brief message is being inscribed [or delivered] by Silvanus, whom I consider to be a faithful brother. [In it] I am exhorting you and giving testimony that it is a message about God's genuine unearned favor upon you. So, continue to follow [and obey] what it says.
