“Is there no end to [your futile] words of wind?
Or what plagues you [so much] that you [so boldly] answer [me like this]?

Also I will speak as you: if it is your soul instead of my soul, I will join together with words against you, and shake my head against you upon it

If I speak, my pain is not relieved; and [if] I cease, how much will leave me?

Thou wilt lay fast hold on me to be for a testimony, and my leanness will rise up in me; it will answer against my face.

He rent in his anger, and he will lie in wait for me, gnashing upon me with his teeth; mine enemy will sharpen his eyes against me.

“But You [Lord] have closed their hearts to understanding,
Therefore You will not exalt them [by giving a verdict against me].

He denounces friends for reward, so his children's eyes will fail.

“The upright will be appalled at this,
And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.

And the righteous layeth hold on his way, And the clean of hands addeth strength, And -- dumb are they all.

But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.


If I call out to the pit (grave), ‘You are my father’;
And to the worm [that feeds on decay], ‘You are my mother and my sister [because I will soon be closest to you],’


Where now is my hope?
And who regards or considers or is even concerned about my hope?

Will they go down [to] the bars of Sheol? Or shall we descend together into the dust?"

And Bildad the Shuhite will answer and say,

How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

"[You who] are tearing {yourself} in your anger, will [the] earth be forsaken because of you? Or will [the] rock be removed from its place?

Furthermore, the light of [the] wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire will not shine.

For he was cast into a net by his feet, and he will go about upon latticework.


“A snare catches him by the heel,
And a trap snaps shut on him.

"Sudden terrors terrify him all around, and they chase him at his heels.

His wealth will become hunger, and disaster is ready for his stumbling.

The firstborn of death devoureth the members of his body; it will devour his members.

All his comfort and hope shall be rooted out of his dwelling, and shall bring him unto the king of fear.

In his tent will be seen that which is not his, burning stone is dropped on his house.

His roots wither underneath, while his branches above are being cut off.

All memory of him perishes from the earth;
he has no name anywhere.

Those in the west are appalled at his fate,
while those in the east tremble in horror.

And Job will answer and say,

These ten times ye will reproach me: ye will not be ashamed, ye will injure me.

If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

He has broken me down all around, and I am gone. And he has uprooted my hope like a tree,

And he will kindle his anger against me, and he will reckon me to him as his enemy.

Together, enter his troops and have cast up, against me, their mound, and have encamped all around my tent;

Why do you persecute me as God does?

And the Naainathite will answer and say,

For this my thoughts will turn back, and because of my haste in me.

The correction meant to confound me, I must hear, but, the spirit - out of my understanding, will give me a reply.


Yet he perishes forever like his own refuse;
Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’


“He flies away like a dream and cannot be found;
Yes, he is chased away like a vision of the night.


“The eye which saw him sees him no longer,
Neither does his [accustomed] place behold him any longer.


“His sons favor the poor [and pay his obligations],

“His bones are full of youthful strength
But it lies down with him in the dust.

If evil shall be sweet in his mouth he will cover it under his tongue;

his food will turn rancid in his stomach it will become a cobra's poison inside him.

He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again; God will cast them out of his belly.


“He sucks the poison of vipers [which ill-gotten wealth contains];
The viper’s tongue slays him.

{He will not enjoy the streams}, [the] torrents of honey and curds.

Returning [the] products of [his] toil, he will not swallow; according to the profit of his trade, {he will not enjoy},


“Because he knew no quietness or calm within him [because of his greed],
He does not retain anything he desires.


“There is nothing left of what he devoured;
Therefore his prosperity does not endure.

In the fullness of his excess {he will be in distress}; all of misery's power will come [upon] him.

When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.


“He may flee from the iron weapon,
But the bow of bronze will pierce him through.

It will impale him and come out through his back; the point will glisten as it protrudes through his gall bladder, and he will be terrified.

All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.

[The] heavens will reveal his guilt, and [the] earth will rise up against him.


“The produce and increase of his house will depart [with the victors];
His possessions will be dragged away in the day of God’s wrath.

And Job will answer and say,

"Listen carefully to my words; let this encourage all of you.

Suffer me, and I also will speak; And after that I have spoken, mock on.

After all, isn't my complaint against a human being? If so, why shouldn't I be impatient?

Mark me well, and be abashed, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

Their children are established while they are still alive,
and their descendants, before their eyes.

Their houses are safe from all fear, for the rod of God doth not smite them.

Their ox is ready at all times to give seed; their cow gives birth, without dropping her young.

They allow their children to run like a flock; their little ones dance about.

They will lift up with the drum and harp, and they will rejoice at the voice of the pipe.

And they will say to God, Depart from us; and we desired not the knowledge of thy ways.

Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him,
and what will we gain by pleading with Him?”

Truly, is not their well-being in their power? (The purpose of the evil-doers is far from me.)
