For ye are not come to the mountain that could be touched, and the burning fire, and blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words, which they that heard intreated that the word might not be spoken to them any more. For they could not bear that which was commanded, If even a beast touch the mountain, let it be stoned. read more.
And so terrible was the appearance, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and tremble. But ye are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company, To the general assembly of angels, and to the church of the first born, who are inrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, which speaketh better things than that of Abel. It was therefore necessary, that the patterns of things in heaven should be purified by these, but the heavenly things themselves by better sacrifices than these.

And this word, Yet once more, sheweth the removal of the things which are shaken, as being made, that the things which are not shaken may remain.

did not receive the promise, God having provided some better thing for us, that they might not be perfected without us.

The Holy Ghost evidently shewing this, that the way into the holiest was not yet made manifest, while the first tabernacle was still subsisting, Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, which could not perfect the worshiper as to his conscience, Only with meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed till the time of reformation. read more.
But Christ being come, an high-priest of good things to come, through a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is, not of this building, And not by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, entered in once for all into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge our conscience from dead works, to serve the living God? And for this end he is the Mediator of a new covenant, that by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, they who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
