And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to prepare for the Lord a people well-disposed.

And they answered, Some say thou art John the Baptist, others Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

And his disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say, that Elias must first come? Jesus said unto them, Elias doth indeed come first, and shall set all things right. But I tell you that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but did what they pleased to him: and so is the Son of man to suffer by them.

And He answered and told them, Elias doth indeed come first, and settle all things: He told them likewise how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be used contemptuously. But I tell you, that Elias is come, and they have done to him whatever they would, as it is written of him.

And they asked him, What then? art thou Elias? And he said, I am not. Art thou a prophet? and he answered, No. Therefore said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us: What dost thou say of thy self? and he said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, "Make straight the way of the Lord," according to Esaias the prophet. read more.
Now they that were sent, were of the pharisees: and they asked him, and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor a prophet?

And after six days, Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up to a high mountain apart; and was transfigured before them: and his face shone like the sun, and his raiment became white as the light. And they saw Moses and Elias talking with Him. read more.
Then Peter said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou pleasest, let us make three tabernacles here, one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. And as he was speaking, lo a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, Rise up and be not afraid. And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw none but Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, till the Son of man be risen from the dead. Then the disciples understood that He spake to them of John the baptist.

And after six days Jesus taketh with Him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up by themselves to a high mountain apart; and was transfigured before them: and his raiment shone, being exceeding white as snow, so as no fuller on earth can whiten. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. read more.
Then said Peter to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: let us make three tabernacles; one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: for he knew not what to say, for they were sore afraid. And there was a cloud overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him. And immediately looking round about, they saw no more of any one, but Jesus alone with them. And as they came down from the mountain, He charged them to tell no one what they had seen, till after the Son of man were risen from the dead. And they laid hold on that expression, querying among themselves, what means the rising from the dead? Then they asked Him, saying, Why do the scribes say, that Elias must come first? And He answered and told them, Elias doth indeed come first, and settle all things: He told them likewise how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be used contemptuously. But I tell you, that Elias is come, and they have done to him whatever they would, as it is written of him.

About eight days after these discourses, He took Peter, and John, and James, and went up to a mountain to pray. And as He was praying the form of his countenance was altered, and his raiment white and glistering: and behold two men talked with Him, which were Moses and Elias; read more.
who appeared in glory, and spake of his exit, which He was to make at Jerusalem. Now Peter and they that were with Him were heavy with sleep; but being awakened they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with Him. And as they were departing from Him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here, let us make three tabernacles, one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. And as he was saying this, there came a cloud and overshadowed them; and they were afraid, when they went up into the cloud and disappeared. And there came a voice out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him. And when the voice was uttered, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it to themselves, and told no one at that time any of the things which they had seen.

The scribes and pharisees sit in the seat of Moses: observe therefore and do all things whatsoever they tell you to observe; but do not ye according to their works, for they say and do not:

Therefore every teacher, who has been thus instructed in the knowledge of the kingdom of heaven, is like a master of a family, who brings forth out of his store things new and old.
