Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in wise: when Mary his mother was promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Ghost:

and she brought forth her son, the first-born, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

(Now all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled, which the Lord spake by the prophet, saying, "Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel," which is God with us.)

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came certain wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

so Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and line of David) to be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was big with child. And while they were there, the days of her delivery were fulfilled,

and having summoned together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he enquired of them where the Messiah was to be born: and they told him, at Bethlehem in Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet, "And thou Bethlehem in the land of Juda art not the meanest among the cities of the princes of Juda; for out of thee shall come forth a ruler, that shall feed my people Israel." Then Herod called the wise men to him privately, and inquired of them exactly the time of the star's appearing: and sending them to Bethlehem, he said, Go and make diligent search for the child, and when ye have found Him, let me know, that I also may come and worship Him. When they had heard the king, they went: and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went on before them, till it came and stood over the place where the child was. And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy; and coming into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they brought Him presents, of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was baffled by the wise-men, was very much enraged; and he sent and slew all the male-children in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly inquired of the wise-men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremias the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel bewailing her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

and stayed there till the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spake by the prophet, saying, " Out of Egypt have I called my Son."

Now in those days came John the baptist preaching in the desert part of Judea,

And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to prepare for the Lord a people well-disposed.

Then he permitted Him. And Jesus as soon as He was baptized came up from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened unto Him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon Him:

for He, whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth the Spirit to Him not by measure.

how God anointed Him with the holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil: for God was with Him.

and He may send Jesus Christ, who was before preached unto you: whom heaven must indeed receive till the times of settling all things, of which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets from the beginning. And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and according to his custom He went into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, and stood up to read. And there was delivered to Him the book of the prophet Esaias; and opening the book, He found the place where it was written, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me to the end, for which He hath anointed me: He hath sent me to publish good tidings to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to release them that are bruised,read more.
and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." And He folded up the book, and gave it again to the minister, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon Him. And He said unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Now when Jesus heard that John was imprisoned, He departed into Galilee: and leaving Nazareth He came and dwelt in Capernaum a maritime town, on the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, "The land of Zabulon,read more.

And when they drew nigh to Jerusalem and were come to Bethphage at the mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying unto them, Go into the village over-against you, and ye will find directly an ass tied and a colt with her: loose them and bring them to me: and if any one say any thing to you, tell him the Lord hath need of them, and he will immediately send them.read more.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, behold, thy king cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, even a colt the fole of an ass.

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and drove out all that were selling and buying in the court of the temple, and threw down the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves:

For the passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those that sold oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money changers sitting: and having made a whip of small cords He drove them all, out of the temple; with the sheep and the oxen: and He poured out the changers money, and threw down the tables.read more.

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here among us? and they were prejudiced against Him.

And Jesus said to them in answer, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see: the blind are restored to sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised to life, and the poor have the gospel preached to them: and happy is the man who shall not be offended at any thing in me.

Therefore the chief priests and the pharisees held a council and said, What are we doing? for this man worketh many miracles.

For Christ also pleased not himself; but as it is written, "The reproaches of them that reproached thee, fell upon me."

yea, He came to his own peculiar right, and even his own people received Him not.

For neither did his brethren believe in Him.

because they sought it not by faith, but by the works of the law, for they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;

and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence. These stumble at the word through unbelief, unto which also they were appointed.

If I had not done among them such works as no other ever did, they had not comparatively had sin: but now they have both seen, and hated, both me and my Father. But thus it is that the word might be fulfilled, which is written in their law, they hated me without a cause.

Then saith Jesus to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, "The stone which the builders refused, is made the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?"

And on that same day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other: for before they were at enmity one with the other.
