And He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; with a view to the perfecting of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown man??o the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ;
It is needful, therefore, that the bishop be irreproachable, a husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, hospitable, apt to teach,
Let elders who preside well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in word and teaching.
But speak the things which become the healthful teaching; that aged men be temperate, grave, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, in patience; that aged women, in like manner, be reverent in demeanor, not slanderers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;read more.
that they may train the young women to be lovers of their husbands, lovers of their children, to be sober, pure, workers at home, good, submitting themselves to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. The younger men, in like manner, exhort to be sober-minded; in all things showing yourself an example of good works; in teaching, showing incorruptness, gravity, sound speech not to be condemned; that he who is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say concerning us. Exhort servants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well-pleasing in all things; not contradicting, not keeping back anything, but showing forth all good faith; that they may adorn the teaching of our Savior God in all things.
feed the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it, not by constraint, but willingly; nor yet for base gain, but of a ready mind;
or he that exhorts, in his exhortation; he that imparts, let him do it with liberality; he that presides, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
And we beseech you, brethren, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
