And He said also to His disciples, "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and the same was accused to him as squandering his goods. And, calling him, he said to him, 'What is this I hear of you? Render the account of your stewardship; for you can be no longer steward.' And the steward said in himself, 'What shall I do? because my lord takes away the stewardship from me! To dig, I have not strength; to beg, I am ashamed!read more.
I resolved what to do; that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.' And, calling to him each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, 'How much do you owe my lord?' And he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' And he said to him, 'Take your accounts, and, sitting down, quickly write, Fifty.' After that he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' And he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' He says to him, 'Take your accounts, and write, Four score.' And the lord praised the steward of unrighteousness, because he acted prudently; because the sons of this age are more prudent toward their own generation, than the sons of light. And I say to you, make to yourselves friends out of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it fails, they may receive you into everlasting tabernacles. He that is faithful in the least is faithful also in much; he that is unrighteous in the least is unrighteous in much. If, therefore, ye were not faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches? And, if ye were not faithful in that which is another's, who will give to you your own? No domestic can serve two lords; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will hold to one, and despise the other: ye cannot serve God and mammon."
