It is as when a man away from home, having left his house, and having given authority to his servants, to each his work, commanded also the porter to watch. Watch, therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house is coming, at evening, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or in the morning;
Obey those who are your leaders, and submit to them; for they watch in behalf of your souls, as those who are to give an account; that they may do this with joy, and not with sighing; for this would be unprofitable for you.
Wherefore, watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I ceased not to admonish every one with tears.
Take heed to yourselves, and to all the flock in which the Holy Spirit appointed you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of God, which He purchased with His own blood.
It is needful, therefore, that the bishop be irreproachable, a husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, hospitable, apt to teach,
For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain;
feed the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it, not by constraint, but willingly; nor yet for base gain, but of a ready mind;
"Verily, verily, I say to you, he that enters not through the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. But he that enters through the door is shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.
I know that, after my departure, grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock;
preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. For there will be a time when they will not endure the healthful teaching; but, having itching ears, they will for themselves heap up teachers according to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to the fables.read more.
But be sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fully accomplish your ministry.
holding fast the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in the healthful doctrine, and to convict those who contradict. For there are many unruly men, vain-talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whom it is needful to reduce to silence: who, indeed, are overthrowing whole houses, teaching what they ought not, for the sake of base gain.
Not as shaming you, do I write these things, but as my beloved children, admonishing you.
Now I beseech you, brethren, to mark those who are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the teaching which ye learned; and turn away from them.
envyings, drunkenness, revelings, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, as I also said before, that those practicing such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

cease not to give thanks on your behalf, making mention of you in my prayers;
To which end we also pray for you always, that our God may account you worthy of your calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and work of faith, with power;
But Peter said to Him, "If even all should be made to stumble, yet will not I!" And Jesus saith to him, "Verily I say to you, that you today, in this night, before the cock crows twice, will thrice deny Me."
It is needful, therefore, that the bishop be irreproachable, a husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, hospitable, apt to teach, not given to wine, not a striker, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money, presiding well over his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravityread more.
(but, if one knows not how to preside over his own house, how will he take care of an assembly of God?); not a novice; lest, being puffed up, he fall into condemnation of the Devil. And it is needful also that he have an honorable testimony from those without, lest he fall into reproach and a snare of the Devil.
Attend to these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your progress may be manifest to all. Take heed to yourself, and to the teaching; continue in them; for, doing this, you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

My brethren, become not many of you teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater judgment.
