for consider, brethren, that not many worldly wise, not many men of power, not many men of birth are among you that are called.
to such as we, whom he has called, both from among the Jews, and from among the Gentiles.

I therefore the prisoner for the Lord, beseech you to live suitably to the offers that have been made to you:
conjuring you to live suitably to the favour of God, who has called you to his kingdom and glory.
Wherefore we continually pray, that our God would by his power effect all the gracious designs of his goodness, and accomplish the work of faith in you;

don't return evil for evil, nor calumny for calumny; on the contrary, bestow your benedictions, considering that your vocation obliges you thereto, as a means to obtain the divine blessing.
Wherefore be the more diligent, my brethren, to secure your vocation and election by your virtuous actions, for by so doing, you will never relapse:
