but Jesus answered the man that told him, who is my mother? and who are my brothers? and holding out his hand towards his disciples, see there, said he, my mother, and my brothers. for whosoever shall do the will of my father, who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.
for where two or three are assembled in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
whoever receives such a child as this upon my account, receives me; and he that receiveth me, does not so properly receive me, as the commands of him that sent me.
but he answered them, my mother and brethren are these, who attend to the word of God, and practise it.
Upon this, they said to one another, to what ardor did not our affections rise, while he talk'd with us by the way, and while he expounded to us the scriptures?
but Jesus answer'd, I assure you, except ye eat the flesh of the son of man, and drink his blood, ye will have no life in you.

then shall you know, that I am in my father, and you in me, and I in you. he that hath received my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me, shall be beloved by my father, and I will love him, and shew my self unto him. Jesus answered him, he that loves me, will observe my precepts: and my father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
be attach'd to me, and I shall be so to you. as the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, except it be attach'd to the vine: so neither can you, except you continue attach'd to me. I am the vine, you are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for independent of me ye can do nothing.
that they all may be one, as thou, father, art in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. and the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them: that they may be one, even as we are one. I in them, and thou in me, that they may have a perfect union, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
to them I have declared thy name, and will declare it: that thou mayst love them as thou hast loved me, and I have loved them."
thus, my brethren, the law is become dead with respect to you by the body of Christ; that you might be subject to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Sentence of death therefore shall not pass upon those christians who do not lead a vicious life.
and if Christ be in you, tho' the body is mortal in consequence of sin; the spirit gives life by justification.
and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; although we now suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
if then, some of the branches are broken off, and thou like a wild olive, were grafted in their place to partake of the root and sap of the olivestock;
so we who are many, make all but one body in Christ, and every member subservient to one another.
for he, who has called you to the communication of his son Jesus Christ our Lord, will make good his promise.
"meat is design'd for the belly, and the belly for meat:" true, yet God has design'd both for destruction. now the body is not design'd for licentiousness, but for the glory of the Lord; since the Lord died for the glorification of the body: for as God hath raised up the Lord, so will he likewise raise us up to partake of his own power. Don't you know, that your bodies are parts of Christ's mystical body? now, how can that which is Christ's, be made the property of a very creature?
but he that is attach'd to the Lord, is united to him by one and the same spirit.
the cup of benediction which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? the bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
For as the body is one, tho' it has many members, and all the members of that one body, tho' many, are one body: so also is the body of Christ.
Thus you are the body of Christ, being the particular members of it.
for I am jealous over you with religious jealousy: since I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Hereby we know that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his spirit.
he that receives the son, is intitled to life; and he that does not receive the son of God, has no title to life.
We know that the son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding to know him that is true: and we are with him that is true, by his son Jesus Christ. "he is the true God, who is the author of eternal life."
no renegado that deserts the doctrine of Christ, has any interest in the deity: he that adheres to the doctrine of Christ, has an interest both in the father, and in the son.
behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, I will sup with him, and he shall afterwards be entertain'd by me.
