And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:" this is the first or chief commandment, and the second is like it, even this, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:" there is no other commandment greater than these.

they gathered together again, and one of them, an interpreter of the law, propounded a question, to try Him, and said, Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law? And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two precepts depend all the law and the prophets.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another comforter to abide with you for ever: even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him, because He abideth with you, and shall be in you.

All things therefore whatsoever ye would have men do to you, do ye also in like manner unto them: for this is the doctrine of the law and the prophets.

And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them in like manner.

for this command, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and every other social precept, is summed up in this, namely, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Love worketh no evil to our neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

For all the law is fulfilled in one precept, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

And we know that all things co-operate for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to his purpose; for those whom he foreknew, He also predetermined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that He might be as the first-born among many brethren: and whom He before ordained, these He also called; and whom He called, these he also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

If ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, which saith, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.

to the praise of his glorious grace, whereby He hath made us acceptable in the Beloved: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the remission of sins, according to the riches of his grace; wherein He hath abounded towards us with the highest wisdom and prudence; having made known to us the secret of his will, according to his good pleasure, which He had before purposed in Himself: that in the dispensation of the fulness of times, He might reduce all things, both in heaven and on earth, under one head in Christ: even in Him, in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated to it according to the purpose of Him who effecteth all things after the counsel of His own will: that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he who had received the promises, offered up his only son; of whom it was told him, that in Isaac shall thy seed be called: concluding that God was able to raise him even from the dead; from whence indeed he had in a manner received him.

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed the gospel, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence; be still working out your own salvation though with fear and trembling: for it is God that worketh in you both to will, and to work, out of his own good-pleasure.

And these all, though they obtained an honorable testimony by faith, yet received not the promise; God having provided something better concerning us, that without us they might not be made perfect.

But the comforter, that is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said unto you.

and blessed is she that believed; for there shall be a performance of the things that were told her from the Lord.

But when the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He will not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that will He speak, and will shew you things to come.

for what saith the scripture? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness."

knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Now faith is the confident expectation of things hoped for, and a conviction of things not seen: for by it the ancients obtained an honorable testimony. And these all, though they obtained an honorable testimony by faith, yet received not the promise;
