for I came to set a man at variance with his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

Think ye that I came to give peace in the earth? I tell you, nay, but rather division. For from this time forth five in one house will be divided, three against two, and two against three;

And there was much murmuring about Him among the multitudes: some were saying, "He is a good Man;" others were saying, "Nay, but He is misleading the multitude."

Some of the multitude, therefore, having heard these words, said, "Truly This is the Prophet;" others said, "This is the Christ;" but some said, "What? doth the Christ come out of Nazareth?" Did not the Scriptures say, that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"read more.
A division, therefore, arose in the multitude because of Him.

Some of the Pharisees, therefore, said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.

There arose again a division among the Jews because of these words.

But the multitude of the city was divided; and some, indeed, held with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

And, when Paul and Barnabas had no little dissension and discussion with them, they arranged that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders, concerning this question.

And, much discussion having arisen, Peter, standing up, said to them, "Brethren, ye well know that, from early days, God made choice among you, that through my mouth the gentiles should hear the word of the Gospel, and believe.

And, when a great dissension was arising, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul might be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers, going down, to take him by force out of their midst, and lead him into the castle.

Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfected in the same mind, and in the same judgment.

for ye are yet carnal; for whereas there is among you jealousy and strife, are ye not carnal, and do ye not walk as men? For, when one says, "I am of Paul;" and another, "I am of Apollos;" are ye not carnal?

Now these things were happening to them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, unto whom the ends of the ages have come. Wherefore, let him who thinks he is standing take heed, lest he fall. A temptation has not taken you, except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

For, first, when ye come together in an assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you; and I partly believe it; for there must also be factions among you, that the approved may be made manifest among you.

Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfected in the same mind, and in the same judgment. For it was signified to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now I mean this: that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul;" and "I of Apollos;" and "I of Cephas:" and "I of Christ!"read more.
Hath Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye immersed into the name of Paul? I am thankful that I immersed no one of you, except Crispus and Gaius; lest some one should say that ye were immersed into my name. And I immersed also the household of Stephanas; besides, I know not whether I immersed any other. For Christ sent me not to immerse, but to proclaim the Gospel; not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.

He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who is not gathering with Me is scattering.

And some, coming down from Judaea, were teaching the brethren, "Unless ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved." And, when Paul and Barnabas had no little dissension and discussion with them, they arranged that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders, concerning this question.

And, after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, "Turning about, let us visit the brethren in every city, in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing." And Barnabas was desiring to take with them John also, who was called Mark. But Paul was not thinking it proper to take him with them, who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.read more.
And there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted one from the other; and Barnabas, taking with him Mark, sailed away to Cyprus. And Paul, haring chosen Silas, went forth, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the assemblies.

For, finding this man a plague, and stirring up insurrections among the Jews throughout the inhabited earth, and a ring-leader of the sect of the Nazarenes;

Now I beseech you, brethren, to mark those who are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the teaching which ye learned; and turn away from them.

As I exhorted you to continue in Ephesus, when I was journeying into Macedonia, that you might charge certain ones not to teach a different doctrine, nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies; which, indeed, occasion disputes rather than God's dispensation, which is in faith, so do I now.
