If the son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father: will he give him a stone? Or if he ask fish, will he for a fish, give him a serpent? Or if he ask an egg: will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then which are evil, can give good gifts unto your children: How much more shall the father of heaven give a holy spirit to them, that desire it of him?"
Fathers, provoke not your children, lest they be of a desperate mind.
He that spareth the rod, hateth his son; but whoso loveth him, chastiseth him betimes.
Understand, therefore, in thine heart, that as a man nurtureth his son, even so the LORD thy God nurtureth thee.

Yea, and a bishop must be faultless, the husband of one wife, sober, discreet, honestly appareled, harborous, apt to teach, not drunken, no fighter, not given to filthy lucre: but gentle, abhorring fighting, abhorring covetousness, and one that ruleth his own house honestly, having children under obedience, with all honesty.read more.
For if a man cannot rule his own house, how shall he care for the congregation of God?
If ye shall endure chastening, God offereth himself unto you, as unto sons. What son is that whom the father chasteneth not? If ye be not under correction - whereof all are partakers - then are ye bastards and not sons. A wise son will receive his father's warning; but he that is scornful, will not hear when he is reproved.
If thou teachest a child in his youth what way he should go; he shall not leave it when he is old.

And her husband arose and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her home again; and his lad with him and a couple of asses. And about the time of her death, the women that stood about her, said unto her, "Fear not for thou hast borne a son." But she answered not, nor regarded it. And she named the child Ichabod saying, "Honour is departed from Israel" - Because the ark of God was taken, and her father-in-law and her husband were dead.
