Jesus moved on. He then saw Matthew seated at his work collecting taxes. He said to him: Follow me. He rose and followed him.

He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, seated at the place where taxes were collected. He said to him: Come with me. And he got up and went with him.

Now this he spoke, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. After he spoke he said: Follow me.

He told them all: If any man would come after me let him deny himself. Let him take up his stake (of self-denial) daily, and follow me.

Jesus turned to speak to the large crowd of people who were traveling with him: You who come to me may not be my disciple unless you love me more than you love your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters and yourself. Those who do not carry their own stake and come after me may not be my disciples.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world. He that follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.

If you want to serve me follow me! My servant will be where I am and the Father will honor my servant.

Jesus said: If it is my will that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.
