Be followers (imitators) of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Have this attitude (mind-set) (understanding) (mental state) in you that was also in Christ Jesus.

I have given you an example. You should also do as I have done to you.

Those he first recognized, he ordained in advance that they be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers. This is for the perfecting (equipping) (preparing) of the holy ones, for the work of ministering, for the building up of the body of Christ: until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown (mature) man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. I suffered the loss of all things. Yet I count them as refuse (garbage) (dung) that I may gain Christ. He that says he lives in union with him should walk as he walked.

We all, with unveiled face, behold as in a mirror the glory of God and are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, exactly as from God's Spirit.

They who live according to flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh. They who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. The mind of sinful flesh (fleshly thought) means death; but the mind influenced by the Spirit gives life and peace. This is because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God. Those influenced by the sinful flesh cannot please God. But you are not in flesh but in Spirit, if indeed God's Spirit dwells in you. If any one does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to him.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness (mildness), self-control; against such there is no law.

You imitated the Lord and us, even though you suffered much affliction. Yet you received the word with the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit.

It is enough for the disciple (student) that he is like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebub (Satan), others of the household could also be called the same!

The disciple is not above his teacher. Every one will be like his teacher when he is fully trained.

Let the dead bury the dead. You go and publish abroad the kingdom of God. Jesus replied. Another said: I will follow you Lord, but first let me go say good by to my relatives. Jesus responded: No man, who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.

If you obey my commandments you will remain in my love. I have obeyed my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

He then spoke to both his disciples and the crowd. He said: If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his stake and follow me. Whoever would save his life will lose it. Whoever would lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

Then Jesus told his disciples: If any man wants to follow me (be mine), let him deny (disown) himself, and take up his stake and follow me (Greek: akoloutheo moi, let him be following me) (accompany me) (be in the same way with me).

He told them all: If any man would come after me let him deny himself. Let him take up his stake (of self-denial) daily, and follow me. He who would save his life shall lose it. He who would lose his life for my sake shall save it.

For this you were called because Christ also suffered for you. He left you an example (a copy for imitation) (a model) that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin and deception was not found in him. When he was reviled (insulted), he did not revile in return. When he suffered he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously.

Anyone who does not pick up his stake and follow me is not worthy of me.

You who come to me may not be my disciple unless you love me more than you love your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters and yourself. Those who do not carry their own stake and come after me may not be my disciples.

Now this he spoke, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. After he spoke he said: Follow me.

I want to know him and the power of his resurrection. I want to know the fellowship of his sufferings and become conformed to his death.

Since Christ suffered physically for us, you too must strengthen yourselves with the same way of thinking that he had. Whoever suffers physically has ceased from sin.

But it will not be so among you. He who will be great among you must be your servant. And he who will be first among you will be your attendant (servant) (minister). The Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom in payment for many.

It is not so among you. Whoever would become great among you, shall be your minister (servant) (attendant). Whoever would be first among you, shall be servant of all. For the Son of man also came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me. I am meek (mild) and humble in heart. You will have a restful life,

He sat down and the twelve came to him. He said: If any man has the desire to be first, he would be last of all and servant of all.

Contention grew between them concerning which of them was the greatest. He told them: The kings of the nations have lordship over them. Those who have authority over them are called Benefactors. But you should not be this way. He who is the greater among you let him become as the younger. He that is chief among you is he who serves.

If the Teacher and Lord washed your feet you should wash one another's feet. I have given you an example. You should also do as I have done to you.

Look out for the interest of others and not only for your own personal interest. Have this attitude (mind-set) (understanding) (mental state) in you that was also in Christ Jesus.

This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.

By this we know love, because he (Jesus) gave his life for us. We ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.

These things I command you, that you may love one another.
