And the Pharisees, being lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and were openly mocking Him. And He said to them, "Ye are those who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts; because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

Ye judge according to the flesh; I judge no man.

Ye look at things according to appearance. If anyone has trusted to himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again with himself, that, as he is Christ's, so also are we.

And, while all the people were hearing, He said to the disciples, "Beware of the scribes, who wish to walk about in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at feasts; who devour the houses of widows; and, for a pretense, make long prayers. These shall receive greater condemnation."

When, therefore, you are doing alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say to you, they receive their reward.

We are not again commending ourselves to you, but giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that ye may have something suited to those who glory in appearance, and not in heart.

As many as wish to make a fair show in the flesh, these constrain you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

Wherefore, we faint not; but even if our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light tribulation is working out for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen; for the things that are seen are temporal, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
