For I say to you that, unless your righteousness shall exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
So ye also outwardly, indeed, appear righteous to men; but within ye are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
And He said to them, "Ye are those who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts; because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.
And He spake also this parable to some who had trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the rest:
as to zeal, persecuting the assembly: as to the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, these I accounted loss for Christ.
For, what was impossible under law, wherein it was weak through the flesh. God, sending His Own Son in likeness of sinful flesh, and, respecting sin, condemned sin in the flesh; that the requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
and put on the new man, who after God was created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
If ye know that He is righteous, ye know that every one that does righteousness has been begotten of Him.
neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.

What, then, shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh? For, if Abraham was justified by works, he has ground of boasting, but not toward God. For what does the Scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness."read more.
Now to him that works the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt; but to him that works not, but believes on Him Who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness. Even as David also speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God reckoneth righteousness, apart from works, "Happy are those whose iniquities were forgiven, and whose sins were covered. Happy is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin."
For, if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall those who receive the abundance of the grace, and of the gift of righteousness, reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
What, then, shall we say? that gentiles who were not following after righteous obtained righteousness, but a righteousness which is of faith; but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not attain to such a law.
Now that by law no one is justified with God, is evident; because "The righteous one shall live by faith." Now the law is not of faith; but "He who did them shall live in them."

but the righteousness which is of faith speaks thus: "Say not in your heart, who shall ascend up into Heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down); or, who shall descend into the abyss? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)." But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart; that is, the word of faith, which we preach;read more.
that if you shall confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and shall believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Even as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness. Know, then, that those who are of faith, the same are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the gentiles through faith, proclaimed beforehand the Gospel to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed."read more.
So that those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.
Was not Abraham, our father, justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness"; and he was called "God's Friend."read more.
Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
