Now there was in Joppa a certain disciple, Tabitha by name, (which being translated means Dorcas): this woman was full of good works and alms which she was accustomed to do.
And, standing, Zacchaeus said to the Lord, "Behold, the half of my goods, Lord, I give to the poor; and, if I wrongfully exacted anything from any one, I restore four-fold."
Let each one do as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.
When, therefore, you are doing alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say to you, they receive their reward.
And Jesus, having called His disciples near, said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with Me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and I am not willing to send them away fasting, lest haply they faint in the way."
In those days, when there was again a great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, He called to Him His disciples and saith to them, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with Me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and, if I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way; and some of them are from afar."

In all things I showed you that, thus laboring, ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Now, after many years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings;
but now I am going to Jerusalem, ministering to the saints. For Macedonia and Achaia were well pleased to make a certain contribution to the poor of the saints who are in Jerusalem. Indeed, they were well pleased, and their debtors they are; for, if the gentiles were partakers of their spiritual things, they ought also to minister to them in carnal things.
For it is not that there may be relief to others, but distress to you; but, by the rule of equality, your abundance being a supply, at the present time, for their deficiency; that also their abundance may be a supply for your want, that there may be equality: as it has been written, "He that gathered much had nothing over; and he that gathered little had no lack."
only they desired that we should remember the poor, which very thing I was also eager to do.
Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven; and come, follow Me."
"Then will the King say to those on His right hand, 'Come, ye blessed of My Father! inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world: for I hungered, and ye gave Me to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took Me in; naked, and ye clothed Me; I was sick, and ye looked after Me; I was in prison, and ye came to Me.'
For whosoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because ye are Christ's, verily I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
But, of well-doing, and contributing, be not forgetful; for with such sacrifices God is well-pleased.
Now in these days, when the disciples were being multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration.
A religion, pure and undefiled with our God and Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their tribulation, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
